Kihon Kumite
Kihon Kumite
The ten Kihon Kumite (基本組手) are pre-arranged pair work forms fundamental to Wado-ryu karate. The sequences shown here follow the method taught by the late Professor Tatsuo Suzuki, 8th Dan, as practised within the WIKF.
Each form begins with a specific attack and teaches the defender to respond using principles central to Wado-ryu: body shifting (tai sabaki), evasion, and efficient counter-technique rather than meeting force with force.
Students should learn each kihon kumite in the dojo under instruction and use these videos as a reference aid between classes.
